Food: Canadians eat breakfast around 8 am, lunch around noon, and dinner around 6pm. Each meal is complemented by tea, coffee, or snacks. Manners include keepign both hands above the table during a meal.
The Arts and Music: Art galleries and museums are popular. Art focuses on Canadian landscape. Popular crafts include pottery and quilting. Montreal's jazz, comedy, and film festivals are popular attractions. Native American tribes are reviving traditional arts, including clothing decorated with paint, beads, and porcupine quills; jewelry; leatherwork; and woodwork
History: Early native people dominated Canada before Vikings and, later, French settled in North America. The vast area has retained ties with Britain and it's French roots.
Fun Facts: Canada borders three oceans: the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Arctic. Most of Canada's population lives within 100 miles of the US border. In March 2012, the Canadian government stopped making and distributing pennies. Canada stretches across six time zones. Canada is the second largest country in the world.
United States
Food: American eating habits are very diverse becaause of the super diverse culture in the US.
The Arts and Music: The US entertainment industry, including movies and music is known worldwide. Pop music, rock and roll, jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, rap, and hip-hop all have large followings.
History: After the displacement of millions of native Americans in the colonial era, the American Revolution led to independence from Britain and a constitution was established. After acquiring territory from France, Mexico, Russia, and Spain during the 1800s. In 1861, the country broke out into civil war with itself because of the issue of slavery and the secession of southern states. Wars shaped the culture of this young country.
Fun Facts: The United States is the third largest country in the world. About 77 percent of the population professes some religious belief. The country has more than 250,000 rivers. More than 80 percent of all US Americans live in urban areas.
Mexico
Food: Mexicans eat four daily meals, a light breakfast, an early lunch, a main meal in the late afternoon, and a light snack called a merienda at night. Most foods are eaten without utensils; these foods include tacos and other foods eaten with tortillas. Meals may last up to two hours.
The Arts and Music: Song and dance are integral to Mexican society. Mariachi music originates in Mexico and Mexico has become a huge recording and distribution center. Brightly colored murals decorate public buildings and beautiful textiles are found in every household.
History: Mexico boastas a long line advanced indigenous civilizations, building huge empires. The Olmecs , the Mayans and Axtecs dominated Mexico during different parts of Mexico's long rich History. Mexican independence was a long and hard battle through the 19th century and the early 20th century.
Fun Facts: Mexico has the largest population of Spanish speakers in the world. Mexico City is one of the world's largest cities. Mexicans drink more carbonated beverages than any other citizens in the world. As many as one hundred indigenous languages are still spoken in parts of Mexico.
